During the whole month of May I’m partnering with Hearth and Soul, one of my favorite Tallahassee stores, to bring virtual yoga and coaching workshops to you! When we realized we would be doing this virtually (because of Covid) they let me play around with all the wonderful things in their store to set up a dream Home Practice space right in the middle of Hearth and Soul!
If you’d like to be kept in the loop about the upcoming workshops, click here to get on my email list. All the workshops are free to join!
My dream home practice setup at Hearth and Soul, Tallahassee
The first step in setting up my dream home practice space was picking the location. I chose the fireplace because I love the wood stack to help with grounding energy, and there was plenty of space to set up my mat! ⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This set up is in the living area, which is where I normally practice at home as well. It doesn't make sense for me to have a whole separate room just for yoga, because I'd always forget to use it. With my yoga props set up in the middle of my living room, I have a constant reminder to practice.
In a studio, I usually have a big water bottle with me. But for a home practice, where I’m not worried about someone tipping over my cup, I more often have a mug full of tea or coffee next to my mat. Coffee in the morning and tea in the afternoon. I also like to keep a notebook handy when I’m practicing at home, in case inspiration strikes or I want to write down a particularly fun-feeling sequence.
The magnolia is one of my favorite flowers, so of course I picked the mug with a magnolia on it!
While you can practice without a mat at home, I love the feel of a nice mat supporting my practice, especially on a hardwood floor (which can be rough on the knees and joints in some poses). I picked this speckled Lululemon mat because I actually do have this same one at home!
As for yoga props, at home I normally prefer soft, squishy comfort props to the official “yoga” props. So instead of blocks and straps, I grabbed some super soft throw blankets and a textured pillow which was long and thin. The blankets can be rolled and folded to help support you in many postures, or just use them to snuggle up in your savasana after practice.
Can’t you just feel the softness?
For setting the mood I picked a selection of candles from around the store. Hearth and Soul has over a hundred candles to choose from in different styles and scents. I picked a white one with a beautiful glass holder, and the May Nonprofit-partner candle. This little beauty not only smells delicious, but a portion of the profits for this candle will be donated to the Oasis Center for Women and Girls, which is an organization I’m proud to support whenever I can. Candles that benefit nonprofits give my yoga practice extra good vibes, right?
And because music is a must for my own home practice, I made sure to include a bluetooth speaker. I love to put on a favorite playlist and let the music set the tone for my flow. Even if you don’t love to listen to music on your mat, you can play soundscapes or white noise on the speaker to help drown out any ambient noise there might be at your house!
So whether you’re just practicing at home because all the studios are closed, or if you’re ready to cultivate a regular home practice, it might be time to treat yourself to some ambience from Hearth and Soul! And don’t forget to get on my mailing list to make sure you’re invited to each of the next 3 free workshops!
