t’s a new year and we all have things we want to accomplish.
Maybe we want to lose 10 pounds!
Maybe we want to get a new job!
Maybe we want to travel to Aruba!
Why do we have these goals?
Simple!
Because we think that once we achieve them we will feel better. Happier. Free-er. Safer.
But that’s not true.
Think about the last time you achieved a major goal. Maybe you ran your first 5k! Awesome! That’s a huge accomplishment.
How long did that good feeling last?
Did it last an hour? A day? Did it last you a whole week before you felt that it wasn’t that important? After all, you’ll really feel more accomplished and proud and healthy when you run your first 10K, or half marathon.
We have a habit of convincing ourselves that we will feel good once we achieve our goals.
But the reality is that we will always feel the way we feel while we are working on our goals.
If you try to reach your goals by pushing, straining, and stressing…
Then…
When you reach your goals you will feel pushed. Strained. Stressed.
So let’s think about it another way:
If the goal is running a 5k, and you’re doing it because you think it will make you feel stronger….
Then FEELING Stronger is the goal.
If the goal is losing 10 lbs and you’re doing it because you think it will make you feel happier….
Then FEELING HAPPIER is the goal.
If the goal is traveling to Aruba and you’re doing it because you think it will make you feel relaxed….
FEELING RELAXED is the goal.
Got it?
The FEELING is the goal.
So in order to set goals with soul, we need to first get clear on how we really want to FEEL.
And in order to figure out how we truly want to feel, it’s helpful to get clear on how we do NOT want to feel.
And that’s what we’ll do in this workshop.
Over about 2 hours, we’ll get really clear on how we want to feel in different areas of our lives.
Once you know how you want to feel, it’s so much easier to think about what you can do that makes you feel that way.
The next step is adding more of those things that feel great into your schedule, and getting some of the stuff that feels not-so-great out. Here’s where it gets slightly tricky.
We’ll do a time breakdown to estimate how much time you’re spending on different things, and see how you can clear up some space!
Lastly, we’ll set clear action steps to ensure it will be easy as possible to follow through on our feeling-great goals, and share them with an accountability partner, because declaring our intentions is SUPER powerful.
